Premier Launches Pavilion Project Work Commencing
On Friday 5th November the tenant clubs of Mulgrave Reserve welcomed Premier Daniel Andrews and other members of state government and local council to launch the start of construction for our new multi-sport pavilion.
The Premier, The Hon. Daniel Andrews MP (in his capacity as the local member) and the Hon. Ros Spence MP (Minister for Community Sport) were in attendance, along with Monash Mayor and Mulgrave Ward Councillors, with proceedings MC'd by Russell Hopkins (Director Community Services).
The upgraded multi-sport pavilion at Mulgrave Reserve will include a significant refurbishment of the existing building, retaining the footprint of the historical social room, and completing an overhaul of the existing changerooms and amenities, kitchen and canteen area, and public bathrooms. In addition a new adjoining wing will be created to duplicate the existing changerooms and amenities. The new building will deliver the necessary increased changeroom capacity currently lacking and include female-friendly amenities, two new umpires rooms, first aid room, and timekeepers box.
The City of Monash received $2m towards the project from the State Government through the Local Sports Grants Fund, with Council then matching the contribution with $2m also.
Tenant clubs including Mulgrave Cricket Club, Mulgrave Football Club, Eastern Devil Football Club, and Glen Waverley Rovers Junior Football Club will all benefit greatly by the redevelopment.

With construction now having begun, the project will be completed in May/June 2022, ahead of next season's cricket!
The committee of Mulgrave CC are very excited that the pavilion project has now commenced and wish to recognise the close collaboration work having taken place between representatives of City of Monash Recreation Team and the Mulgrave tenant clubs over the last 6 months to make this happen.
Mulgrave CC vice president (seniors) Richard Dwelly said this was an exciting project that would deliver significant benefits for the tenant clubs along with everyone who uses and enjoys the reserve from the local community.
"I arrived at Mulgrave CC 29 years ago at the age of 15 and not a lot has changed in regard to the pavilion itself over that time. For most of that time we have considered ourselves quite lucky to have a very good facility here, particularly with the sports club social room and bar. However it's now looking pretty archaic, and certainly the provision of enough changerooms and amenities for all participating teams on match day are not ideal for all the clubs needs."
"In talking with our life members and other past members of the club over the months since this project was announced, it has been great to hear about some of the history of how the addition of the sports club room back in the 80's were funded by members own fund raising efforts, and they certainly held significant interest in retaining the footprint and set out of that social room. So it was great to see both the history retained and also the new and improved elements of the building come together in this historic project."
